The Fab Five Framers

Mike has once again put an excellent team on the ground at the Blue Rooster.  We had 5 framers start on Monday morning and by end of day Wednesday, the structure was built, had exterior fire rated sheathing and roof sheathing complete.

Thurs and Fri are for the fine work and wrap-up.

At this rate, you may want to revisit the date you selected for our opening!  I can tell you we are working at a more furious pace right now to keep up with the construction team -- what a pleasure that is for us.

Basement floor pour - pictures

Again - Mike Toth and his crew of 9 men exceeded expectations.  This week the foundation and basement were the main focus of effort; they are complete and framing of the kitchen will begin next week.

Teamwork, willing workers and commitment to doing the work in best possible manner -- this is what you will see each day at the site, 17 No Main St.

Cranbury - gold standard for small towns

If you are a member of the Cranbury community, I hope you will be interested in the letter I attach below.  I wrote and sent this based on hearing that the open comment period for all New Jersey communities that view COAH 3, Revised as non-supportive of their way of life
CLOSES on SATURDAY, 22nd March.

Please consider voicing your personal views to the COAH leadership (coahmail@dca.state.nj.us)

Addition foundation complete in 1 day

Saturday, 15th March  saw 15 masons working at the Blue Rooster.  Professionals all, they started with a firm footing and a tall pile of block.  At the end of the day, they had completed the full foundation for our addition - that's the kitchen of the bakery and cafe.

What an amazing testimony to the power of a strong team doing the work they know best.  Mike Toth led the charge and knows what it takes to do the right job to satisfy the needs of the project.

Thanks to all who did the work and who are now supporters of the Blue Rooster!

We are told to look for framing to begin by the end of next week --

Ground Breaking Event

This morning many, many friends, neighbors, and supporters - future customers all! - came out to the Blue Rooster for coffee, buns and camaraderie.

We served over 14 pots of coffee and just about 200 sticky buns.

Our first arrivals came by just at the dot of 7am and they were treated to a Fog Buster traveling coffee mug - congrats to Dave and Dan.

Tom Harvey, past-president of the Planning Board, dropped by.  Richard Stannard, Township Committeeman and liaison to the business community stopped as well - Thanks to these two strong supporters, we will be in business before too long!

Over the course of the morning, school children stopped before their club events, Moms and Dads stopped after school drop-off and a number of regular town walkers came by too.

We look forward to serving you on a regular basis when we open in the late summer.

Fog Buster - THE coffee

We will serve Fog Buster Coffee at Friday's ground breaking event and the best news (for us and for you, hopefully!) is that we will also have bags of Fog Busters to SELL.

(No, this does not constitute our opening as the contest outlines, we will have a limited # of bags and will only be selling them during the 7 am - 10 am period of the ground breaking)

We will have both whole beans and ground coffee - if you want to keep drinking the 'good stuff'- until we open - plan on buying a bag on Friday.

If you haven't checked out the Pierce Brothers Coffee Roaster, they are definitely worth a look www.piercebroscoffee.com

fair trade / shade grown / organic -- all apply to Fog Busters and the best news is, it tastes great!

Ground breaking postponed to 3/14/08, Friday next week

Bob's Mom, a loving and kind 92 year old, passed away this morning.  Due to the need to be with family, we will not have our coffee and bun event this week and we will do it next week.

  • Friday, March 14th
  • 7 am - 10 am

PS -- the ground breaking is the formal start of the project, we are as many of you know, months away from opening -- likely late summer!

Bob the baker, back from snowy Vermont with a few new ideas..

Bob just returned from a week of baking at the King Arthur Flour Education Center where he and 10 other professional bakers spent long days in the kitchen working with a 30 year verteran of the bakery world.  He led them in creating a wide variety of primarily sour doughs --
  • a range of rye breads: from 40% rye flour to 100% rye flour;
  • a range of country sour dough loaves and rolls; and
  • you can't get away without baking up a few sweet rolls - the brioche was heavenly and I heard tell that the other pastries and braided loaves 'weren't bad' (none of them made it back to Cranbury!)
